Massive media coverage on Victory Day and Sheikh Russel Day

Bangladesh government has decided to grandly observe the Victory Day on December 16 this year. At the same time, it has also been decided to observe October 18 every year as Sheikh Russel Day in a befitting manner, in memory of the minor son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was brutally murdered on August 15, 1975. Undoubtedly, observation of these days is extremely important for the nations. But the question here is – can these days really be observed in the way any Bangalee would expect? With our experience, what we have seen during the birth centennial celebration of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, we have reasons to have doubts. Bangabandhu’s birth centennial should have received massive media coverage at home and abroad, with articles and documentaries in most of the leading newspapers and TV channels in the world. But, to our utter dismay, we really did not see anything like that. On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, we haven’t seen any coverage in the international media except for some articles published by the Pressenza International Press Agency, Russian Pravda, Telegraph Nepal and the Eastern Herald, the Times of Israel, in addition to several articles published in Blitz. Again, those articles were penned by our editor, Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, an internationally acclaimed multi-award-winning journalist. To my knowledge, no other writers or journalists from Bangladesh had taken such initiatives, for reason best known to them.

Since 2020, Bangladesh’s leading drama production and content provide Crown Entertainment, with collaboration with Crown Creations have produced several dramas, telefilms and a special-length features film on the occasion of the birth centennial of Bangabandhu. Those initiatives were taken by the company without any help of participation of the sponsors, despite the fact, every year, those sponsors spend millions of takas in sponsoring television fictions as well as contents on OTT (Over The Top) platforms. According to information, only during Valentines Day, these local sponsors spend at least BDT 8-9 million in sponsoring television fictions, while local television channels show huge interest in airing as many as dramas and telefilms marking Valentines Day.

This time again, Crown Entertainment and Crown Creations jointly are planning to produce several dramas, telefilms and special length feature films marking the occasion of the December 16 Victory Day and October 18 Sheikh Russel Day, while they also are looking for producing 90-minute movies for a number of international OTT platforms including Netflix, Amazon and HoiChoi.

Elaborating the plans, Syed Iqbal, COO of Crown Creations said, “we are working on these projects and would be finalizing stories by mid-September”.
