In Kolkata cine-circle, Shree Venkatesh Films and its owners are seen as godfathers – if not mere gods by most of the members of the industry. It is because of their tremendous influence. According to information, Shree Venkatesh Films has investments of “hundreds of millions” of Indian rupees in the entertainment industry – starting from films to television channel and what not! But of course, now everyone in Kolkata must have got a huge shock when Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had picked-up Shrikant Mohta, the boss of Shree Venkatesh Films.

CBI arrested Shrikant Mohta, the owner of major Bengali film production house Shree Venkatesh Films for his alleged involvement in a case of fraud.

According to CBI sources, Mohta was initially detained and taken to the CBI office in Salt Lake on the eastern fringes of the city. “Mohta was arrested after we found several inconsistencies in his statement during interrogation,” a senior CBI official told the local media.

CBI sources further revealed that Mohta had taken about RS 25 crore from jailed Gautam Kundu, owner of the Rose Valley Group which was involved in a chit fund scam. But Mohta did not produce any of the films and instead threatened Kundu when he demanded his money back. “Mohta used to threaten Kundu by claiming that he is well connected to several influential people,” said the CBI official.

It may be mentioned here that, Shree Venkatesh Films has opened an office in Bangladesh couple of years back through which it already has invested millions of Taka in producing films.
