Wild Darkness, a poetic bouquet of powerful expression

Commenting on poetry, Lucille Clifton once said, “Poems come out of wonder, not out of knowing”, while Mary Oliver said, “Poetry isn’t a profession; it’s a way of life. It’s an empty basket; you put your life into it and make something out of that”. Moly Siddiqua – as a writer and poet has the magnificent quality, which would only remind the reader of the famous quote by Elizabeth Bishop, where she said: All my life I have lived and behaved very much like the sandpiper – just running down the edges of different countries and continents, looking for something.

Yes, Moly Siddiqua has been looking for replies of millions of questions, in each of the segments of her life. And every time, the world of her own did find – multiple replies – colors – and even Wild Darkness. As a writer – a poet and an artist, Ms. Siddiqua has brilliantly narrated some of the remarkable events and experiences in her life – mostly through abstract format. She has utilized the liberty of an artist, where they would even make big scrawls and mistakes – using lots of paper; she hasn’t thought of perfectionism as she too knows – perfectionism is a mean, frozen of idealism, while messes are the artist’s true friends. As Vonnegut said, “When I write I feel like an armless legless man with a crayon in his mouth”.

Each of her poems contains the ingredients of indulging into thoughts – thinking of the life of an individual – a human soul filled with millions of unexpressed emotions.

Moly Siddiqua is a lover of art, culture and humanity, she aims for her readers to resonate with her stories. Moly Siddiqua is an award-winning fashion designer, who later transferred her creativity into the field of literature. Her work is published on multiple platforms. Creative writing is a breath of fresh air for her – and her readers certainly will feel it.

While reading her poems, readers will discover the fragrance of poems by Maya Angelou, Emily Elizabeth Dickinson or a contemporary Rupi Kaur.

Why do some people resort to expressing their thoughts through the words of poems? I think Anaïs Nin gave the best reply as she said: I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I cannot transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn’t impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.

After reading ‘Wild Darkness’ a reader can only say, the borders between midnight and dawn, between the natural world and the one that embraces the gigabyte, are more fluid now. The rhythm of one’s writing, if I can even call it a rhythm, is to write in fragments, in slow musical patterns, in excruciatingly tentative steps. Somehow the interruptions and distractions of life often begin to seed new ideas and poetry is pushed further into unexplored territory.
