3.2 magnitude earthquake in Kutch district, no loss of life or property

An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude hit Gujarat’s Kutch district on Monday morning. The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) gave this information. District officials said that there was no report of any loss of life or property due to the earthquake.

According to the ISR, the earthquake occurred at 7.35 am with its epicenter about 10 km north-northeast (NNE) of Bhachau town in Kutch district. The earthquake risk in Kutch district remains “high” and mild tremors are felt regularly.

According to the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), the state has been frequently hit by earthquakes and experienced major earthquakes in 1819, 1845, 1847, 1848, 1864, 1903, 1938, 1956 and 2001.

The 2001 Kutch earthquake was the second most devastating earthquake in India in the last two centuries. In this, more than 13,800 people died and another 1.67 lakh people were injured.
