A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey on Monday, razing some buildings to the ground. An officer gave this information. No information has been received so far about any casualty. Three weeks ago, a powerful earthquake caused great devastation in the Turkey-Syria region.
The country’s disaster management agency said Monday’s quake was centered in the town of Yeşiltar in Malatya province. Yesilert’s mayor, Mehmet Sinar, told Haberturk Television that some buildings in the town had collapsed. Malatya was one of the 11 provinces in Turkey that were badly affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
The February 6 earthquake caused widespread devastation in parts of southern Turkey and northern Syria. The earthquake has so far claimed the lives of more than 48,000 people in both countries and caused severe damage to 1,73,000 buildings in Turkey. Turkey’s disaster management agency AFAD said the region had been hit by about 10,000 aftershocks since the powerful January 6 earthquake.
