A tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Vijaya Laxmi Tripura

August, the month of mourning for the people of Bangladesh begins tomorrow. On August 15, 1975, nefarious killers assassinated our father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with members of his family. August 15 is the day of national mourning. It is a day when all beings of the whole Bengal, even nature drop tears.

On August 15th, the time when the murderers were brush firing all the family members of Bangabandhu at the hour just before dawn, it was raining, as if nature was weeping. Frightened Bangladesh against the raised firearms was all bemused in mourning and the unexpected sudden shock. This flame of bereavement will burn for epochs to come. August 15th is the day to recite lamentation, the anniversary of the martyrdom of the architect of independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

On the occasion of the National Mourning Day, internationally acclaimed multi-award-winning anti-militancy journalist Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury, who also is one of the finest lyricists has created three different songs – on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa and Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Bangabandhu. These songs will be released on the YouTube channel of Crown Music, one of the leading music labels in Bangladesh. Music of these songs is by Erfan Tipu and Kazi Jamal. Musical films are directed by film director Tajul Islam and DOP Tapon Ahmed. This is for the first time a private music label has produced three different songs on Bangabandhu, Bangamata and Sheikh Russel.

From the first hour of August 1, 2019, all of the songs will be available on Crown Music’s YouTube channel.

Commenting on the songs, music director Erfan Tipu said, “Shoaib Choudhury is one of the finest lyricists and tuner in Bangladesh. His lyrics contain the ingredients of deep philosophy and thoughts while his tunes are magnanimous. The three songs he has written and tuned on the occasion of our National Mourning Day are extremely emotional while the listeners will not be able to hold tears. In my opinion, these are the best-ever songs on Bangabandhu, Bangamata and Sheikh Russel”.

Music director Kazi Jamal said, “There is no doubt about the excellence of Shoaib Choudhury as a lyricist or tuner. I am honoured to be part of these songs as music director and I do believe, Bengalis around the world will love these songs”.

Film director Tajul Islam said, “Crown Music deserves appreciation for this marvellous initiative. I am confident, people around the world are going to highly appreciate Shoaib Choudhury’s excellent lyrics and tunes”.
