The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said that except for some parts of northwest India and the peninsular region, maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal from April to June over most parts of the country. It said that most parts of central, eastern and northwestern India are expected to be above normal during this period.

Maximum temperature will be above normal – IMD

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said in a digital press conference, ‘There is a possibility of more heatwave conditions in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana.’ The IMD said, “The maximum temperature during the summer season (April to June) in 2023 is very likely to be above normal over most parts of the country except over parts of south peninsular India and northwest India.”

Minimum temperature likely to be normal or above

He told that the maximum temperature may remain normal or below in some parts of South Peninsular India and Northwest India. The Meteorological Department said the minimum temperature is likely to be normal or above in most parts of the country, except in remote parts of northeast and northwest India and peninsular region.

Chances of normal rain in April

The Meteorological Department said that India is likely to receive normal rainfall in April. It said normal or above normal rainfall is likely over most parts of northwest, central and peninsular region while below normal rainfall is likely over east and northeast India.
