The Morrison Government is strengthening economic ties with Bangladesh, expanding trade opportunities in this fast-growing economy that will support jobs and business growth in both countries, says a press release issued by the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment the Hon Dan Tehan MP today signed a new Australia-Bangladesh Trade and Investment Framework Arrangement with the Bangladesh Minister of Commerce, the Hon Tipu Munshi MP.

“The Morrison Government is working to energise and expand the trade and investment relationship between Australia and Bangladesh, to support jobs and business opportunities in both countries,” Mr Tehan said.

“Australia has the potential to meet Bangladesh’s increasing education, training and energy needs. And we offer world-class expertise in agriculture and infrastructure development.”

“Two-way trade has grown 550 per cent over the past decade, reaching $2.6 billion last year. The garment sector, education, agriculture and food and beverages were key drivers of this growth.”

Australia will host the inaugural meeting under the arrangement in 2022, the year Australia and Bangladesh will celebrate 50 years of bilateral relations.
