Bangladesh government appoints two additional AGs

Bangladesh government appointed Supreme Court lawyers Sheikh Mohammad Morshed and Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury as additional attorney generals to move cases on behalf of the state before the apex court.

President M Abdul Hamid made the appointment under article 3(2) of the Bangladesh Law Officer Order 1972 (P.O. No.6 of 1972), a government notification signed by Law and Justice Division Secretary Md Golam Sarwar said.

The notice said the order would come into effect immediately.

With the appointment of Sheikh Mohammad Morshed and Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury, there are now three additional attorney generals.

Earlier on October 11, 2020, additional attorney generals Murad Reza and Momtaz Uddin Fakir resigned from their posts, three days after the appointment of AM Amin Uddin as the country’s new attorney general.
