Bangladesh government revoking passports of ‘conspirators’

Bangladesh government is going to revoke passports of a large number of individuals who are involved into anti-state activities sitting in several foreign countries, including the United States, Canada and Britain. This was disclosed by Bangladeshi minister AKM Mozammel Haque.

The minister said, authorities concerned shall collect information on Bangladeshi nationals who are involved into anti-state activities sitting in a number of foreign countries. On the basis of such information, passports of those individuals shall be revoked.

AKM Mozammel Haque said, if anyone sitting in foreign country spreads misleading information about Bangladesh, it shall be deemed as sedition.

He also said, several foreign nationals are currently living in Bangladesh with validity expired passports. These individuals are involved in numerous types of criminal activities. These foreign nationals would be arrested and later deported to their respective countries.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven foreign nationals from Dhaka city on allegation of cybercrime and cheating various individuals. The arrested foreign nationals are: Udeye Obinna Ruben (42), Ntombikhona Gebyua (36), Ifunaûa Vivian Nnawuike (31), Sunday Shederack Ejim (32), Chinedu Moses Nnaji (36), Collims Ifesinachi Talike (30), and Chidimma Ebele Eylofor (26).

Commenting on government’s decision to revoke passports of Bangladeshi nationals who are involved into anti-state activities, a senior lawyer of Bangladesh Supreme Court said, once passports revoked, those Bangladeshi nationals may lose legal rights of owning movable and immovable properties in Bangladesh and the state may confiscate such properties.
