Bangladesh Police bans gathering during new year eve

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today said no public gathering at open spaces including rooftops will be allowed on the night of December 31 amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The DMP asked not to arrange any cultural programs on roads, flyovers, building rooftops, and other public places, said a press release.

No fireworks or parties will be allowed under the open sky tonight on the occasion of the New Year 2021 celebration, the release added.

Dhaka University campus will remain restricted for outsiders after 6 pm on December 31, said the release, adding teachers and other employees of Dhaka University residing on campus can enter the university premises through Nilkhet and Shahbagh entrances after showing their ID cards.

On 31st night, no outsiders will be allowed to enter Gulshan and Banani areas after 8 pm on December 31, but residents can enter through Kakoli and Amtoli points.

Moreover, after 8 pm no one would be allowed to stay in Hatirjheel area.

The DMP also requested the residents of Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara areas to return home before 8 pm on December 31.

All bars in Dhaka metropolitan area will remain closed from 6 pm today while the fast-food vendors would be closed after 10 pm.

Celebration of the New Year would be allowed residential hotels, maintaining social distancing, the release said.

City dwellers are requested not to carry any licensed arms in public places from 6 pm on December 31 to 6 am on January 1.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police will take legal action against those who fail to comply with these directives.
