BNP-Jamaat nexus spends millions of dollars towards misleading the US administration

With the notorious agenda of putting Bangladesh into trouble, an evil nexus of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami has been spending millions of dollars for the last several years by appointing influential lobbyist firms. Additionally, the same nexus as well as few other anti-Bangladesh and anti-Awami League quarters have been actively pursuing the same agenda. Two other prominent individuals who have been playing dubious roles against Bangladesh are – Nobel laureate Professor Mohammed Yunus and former US ambassador to Bangladesh, William B Milam.

According to documents available with the US authorities, three influential lobbyist firms namely KCD & Associates, Capital Council, and Policy Resolution Group were hired several years ago with the assignments of misleading the US administration with concocted information about Bangladesh.

KCD & Associates was appointed lobbyist in 2020 to take care of “Public relations related to Bangladesh”, although name of the hiring entity has not been mentioned. Two more American organizations namely Worldwide Democracy Support Group and Human Rights for All have also been working alongside KCD & Associates with data and information on Bangladesh, especially with information regarding “human rights violations and democracy”, which had been later handed-over to key figures and organizations in the US administrations. Until now, KCD & Associates alone has been paid BDT 3.52 billons (US$ 42,926,829) as lobbyist fees. There also are few more organizations and individuals hired by various political parties and individuals with similar assignments. A source said, BNP-Jamaat nexus as well as anti-Bangladesh bloc are spending at least BDT 2 billion every year towards lobbyist firms as well as various individuals – both on and out of record.

According to credible source, KCD & Associates, Capital Council, and Policy Resolution Group have openly declared themselves as lobbyists appointed for providing information to the US administration about “democracy, human rights, freedom of expression, freedom of press and repression of political opponents in Bangladesh”. These firms have also declared in their income-tax declaration about being paid for such services. It is further declared by these lobbyist firms that the amount of fees is being paid by several individuals, charity and social welfare organizations.

It is learnt from credible sources that these lobbyist firms are being paid by organizations and entities with direct link to Jamaat-e-Islami’s leader Mir Quashem Ali, an executed war criminal.

The source further said, since August 2021, Policy Resolution Group has been collecting signature of the members of the US Congress on a document related to electoral system in Bangladesh. This document has asked the US administration to exert pressure on Bangladesh for holding future general elections under a caretaker government. Meanwhile Policy Resolution Group has succeeded in getting signatures of several influential members of the US Congress – both from Democratic and Republican Party. Based on this document, a bipartisan resolution may also be moved in the US Congress by the beginning of 2020.

Ant-Bangladesh activities of Professor Mohammed Yunus and William B Milam

Being a senior diplomat, William B Milam is considered as an expert of South Asian affairs by the US State Department and other agencies. He has been extremely critical on the ruling Awami League and been writing in various platforms portraying Bangladesh and the ruling party in a negative manner. Similarly, Professor Mohammed Yunus, who has access to the Clintons – both Bill and Hillary Clinton, been using these contacts against the ruling party in Bangladesh. A source said Yunus has also been introduced by Clintons to several influential figures in the Biden administration as well as former US president Barack Obama.

Most unfortunately, while BNP-Jamaat nexus as well as few other individuals and groups have been continuing anti-Bangladesh and anti-Awami League activities and misleading the US administration and several agencies, Bangladesh mission in Washington has been either reluctant or incapable of countering such notoriety.
