Back in 2011, a convicted and fugitive leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) established contacts with the top leadership of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, a terrorist entity in Sri Lanka, offering millions of dollars for assassinating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Pakistani spy agency Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) coordinated the entire matter and also had made an upfront payment for executing the task. But, the team of assassin died in a road accident in Kolkata, which had foiled the entire conspiracy.

According to Wikileaks, self-proclaimed killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a dear friend of the BNP’s Zia family, Shariful Haque Dalim and 16 other serving and retired military officials plotted an assassination plan. A An expatriate Bangladeshi in Hong Kong named Ishraq Ahmed had reportedly funded the plot. But this was foiled at the efficient efforts of the Bangladeshi intelligence agency.

In 2014, another assassination plot was foiled when several jihadists died while making explosives in West Bengal’s Bardhwan district. According to information, conspirators were planning to assassinate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through a group of 150 female and equal number of male jihadists, mostly belonging to Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB). It was also learned; 13 jihadist couple were leading this assassination plot.

On March 7, 2015, members of Jamaatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB) were plotting to attack the convoy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Dhaka’s Kawran Bazar area and assassinate her. The attackers even had exploded several bombs, although this notorious attack was also foiled by country’s law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

On August 21, 2004, Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its militancy cohorts had attacked a public rally of Awami League with dozens of grenades, targeting Sheikh Hasina. At that time BNP was in power and several key figures of the party were directly involved in this nefarious bid.

In March 2021, once again, Pakistani spy agency ISI along with leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, Hizbut Tahrir, and other radical Islamic militancy and political groups made foul attempt of unseating the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
