Replying to a comment of Mirza Fakhrul over the resignations of two BNP leaders, the minister said it seems that the fleeing has begun from the party. “Once, BNP was a flowing river. But the river is now dry and has died,” he added.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said BNP gets  angry as the Prime Minister has told unpleasant truth in parliament.

“The premier has told that Ziaur Rahman occupied the power through arms and did politics by forming the party (BNP) along with the leftovers, this  means the party was formed illegally. And even, the High Court has also told in its verdict,” he said.

Hasan added: “Most of the senior leaders of BNP including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain and Rizvi Ahmed did other parties and later joined the BNP to take leftovers of power. For this, they (BNP) feel anger after hearing the unpleasant truth.”

The minister told the reporters after exchanging views with the newly elected members of Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the meeting room of his ministry at Secretariat in the capital.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Md Mokbul Hossain, BSRF president Tapan Biswas, vice president Motahar Hossain and general secretary Masudul Haque, among others, addressed the meeting.

Hasan said BNP should accept the truth as none can survive along with lies for long. “I would like to urge Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to teach the party (BNP) leaders decency,” he added.

He said the Prime Minister phoned Begum Zia before the election of 2014. The countrymen have witnessed that how she (Begum Zia) talked in indecent language, he added.

Even, Begum Zia didn’t open her door for 20 minutes when the Premier visited her home to express her sympathy after the death of her (Begum Zia) second son Koko, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

Replying to another query over Begum Khaleda Zia’s health and treatment issues, the minister said, “According to BNP’s recent statements, it seems that it was wrong for us to keep Begum Zia out of jail by showing generosity despite not getting bail from the court. Now it (decision) would be reconsidered again,” he added.

Hasan congratulated the newly elected executive committee members of BSRF.

Mokbul, in his speech, also congratulated the new committee and urged the journalists to publish their news carefully.

BSRF joint general secretary Mehedi Azad Masum, organising secretary Aktha Hossain, training and research secretary Taowhidul Islam, treasurer Md Shafiullah Sumon, office secretary Md Moskayet Mashrek, publicity secretary Baharam Khan and other members of the committee were present in the function.
