The authors of the Chinese portal Global Times believe that a new round of isolation attempts and sanctions against Russia by Western countries leads to the unwinding of the crisis and overshadows the prospects for dialogue.
According to observers, the persistence of the US and EU countries in using sanctions and squeezing Russia out of the international community looks like an attempt to prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
One of the authors of the article, Li Ziguo, a senior fellow at the China Institute of International Studies, believes that such actions by Western countries are simply diplomatic and symbolic gestures that express their frustration.
Another researcher, Zhang Hong, a junior research fellow at the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, believes that such impulsive actions can lead to more bloodshed, more victims and more property losses, as they further fuel the conflict.
The European Union has published a new sanctions package against Russia, which has already entered into force. As a result of the introduction of the tenth package, 1,473 individuals and 205 organizations are under sanctions.
On February 24, 2022, the Russian Federation Army launched a special military operation in Ukraine.
Acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin said that the Russian Armed Forces are approaching Vuhledar from three directions at once: from the south, southwest and west. The head of the DPR stressed that “the process is not going fast.”
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, said that the situation in Donbass is getting tougher. According to Zelensky, a very difficult situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is developing in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) and Vugledar, as well as in Limansky and other directions.
