Cochin Shipyard to build next generation missile ships for Indian Navy

Cochin Shipyard Limited has signed an agreement to build six Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMVs) for the Indian Navy at a cost of Rs 9,805 crore. These ships will be supplied from 2027.

“The primary role of the ships will be to provide combat capability against enemy warships, merchant vessels and ground targets,” the state-owned Cochin Shipyard said in a release. The company informed that the supply of these vessels will start from March 2027.

The release said, ‘NGMV will be a warship equipped with high speed and high firepower weapons that are capable of turning dust in the eyes of the radar. These ships will be capable of conducting attack and anti-surface warfare missions. These will prove to be powerful weapons at sea against enemy ships.

Madhu S Nair, Chief Managing Director, Cochin Shipyard Limited said that after successfully building the country’s first indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, the shipyard is excited to take up the task of building the NGMV.
