Earthquake of magnitude 4 hits east of Tajikistan

An earthquake of magnitude 4 occurred in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan. This was announced on March 4 by the press secretary of the country’s emergency committee, Umeda Yusufi.

“The epicenter of the earthquake that occurred at 5:23 local time (3:23 Moscow time) was located 370 km southeast of Dushanbe, 97 km east of Lake Sarez. The magnitude of the earthquake was 4,” she said. “RIA News”.

There were also less strong aftershocks in the city of Khorog and the village of Murghab. No casualties or destruction were recorded.

Before that, on February 28, an earthquake of magnitude 5 occurred in Tajikistan. The epicenter of the natural disaster was 58 km southwest of Murgab. The source of the earthquake lay at a depth of 60 km.

Earlier, an earthquake on the border of Tajikistan and China occurred on February 23. It was noted that the source lay at a depth of 10 km, and the epicenter of the earthquake was located about 82 km from the Chinese border, tremors were felt in Kashgar and Xinjiang.

A wave of earthquakes in different countries began to be recorded after devastating earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred on February 6 in the Turkish province of Kahramanmarash in the southeast of the country near the Syrian border.
