Forecaster warns of very low pressure on March 5 in Moscow

Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, warned that very low atmospheric pressure is expected in Moscow on March 5.

In conversation with RT on Friday, March 3, the specialist noted that a cyclone was approaching the capital and its movement was “extremely unusual.” It moves from northeast to southwest, although it usually moves from west to east. This will result in a significant drop in pressure.

On Saturday, March 4, it will be about 730-732 mm. rt. Art., and on Sunday, March 5, will be 725 mm. rt. Art.

“This is extremely rare, it is about 22-23 mm Hg. Art. below the norm,” Vilfand said.

According to him, Moscow will be located on the southern periphery of the cyclone. The air temperature on the night of Saturday, March 4, will be -2 … -3 degrees, in the afternoon the thermometers will show about 0 degrees. There is a possibility of small precipitation in the form of snow and sleet, ice formation on wires and tree branches is possible. On Sunday, the weather will change slightly as the cyclone will gradually recede to the east. Both in the daytime and at night, the thermometers will show from -3 to 0 degrees. Wet snow is also possible.

On Friday, March 3, there will be cloudy weather in the capital, light sleet will pass. The air temperature will rise to +2 degrees. As the leading specialist of the Phobos weather center, Mikhail Leus, noted, the wind will be southwestern, western, at a speed of 4–9 m/s.
