French general calls sabotage at Nord Stream unprofitable for Russia

It was not profitable for Russia to blow up the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. This was announced on March 3 by the former head of the French military mission to the UN, General Dominique Trencan.

“The fact that the gas pipeline is owned by a Russian company makes it clear that its explosion is disadvantageous for Russia. Surprisingly, Germany, Sweden and Denmark have already investigated the explosion, but, nevertheless, we have not received any results. And the absence of any conclusions means that it is unprofitable for someone to publish them, ”he said on the air of the TV channel LCI.

Trencan also said that he trusts the investigation of the American journalist Seymour Hersh, since anyone can check his data on the movement of ships in the Baltic Sea.

On February 8, Hersh published an investigation into sabotage on Russian gas pipelines. It says that US divers planted bombs during the Baltops exercises in the Baltic Sea last June, and the Norwegians activated the explosives. Washington’s motives, according to the journalist, were to force Germany to provide military and financial support to Ukraine.

Already on March 3, Hersh, in an interview with China Central Television, said that the United States was the only suspect in organizing the attack on the pipelines. He clarified that over the years of work, he studied the gas and oil business in detail.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow was shocked by the impunity of sabotage on the Nord Streams, which took place in the zone of responsibility of NATO and the European Union.

On February 23, Hersh also said that US President Joe Biden had decided to undermine Nord Stream solely for political reasons. In his opinion, the goal was to prevent Germany and Western Europe from opening the pipeline in the event of an early onset of cold weather. The German authorities imposed sanctions, stopped one pipeline, but had the right to open a new one, which Biden did not want, Hersh said.

For its part, the US State Department rejected the results of the Hersh investigation. His conclusions about sabotage on gas pipelines, the press secretary of the American department, Ned Price, called a blatant lie. At the same time, earlier representatives of the American administration have repeatedly spoken about plans to prevent the work of streams, and expressed their joy at their destruction.

Leaks at Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 were discovered in September 2022. The representative of the seismic center of Sweden, Bjorn Lund, said that two powerful underwater explosions were registered in the area of leaks in pipelines at the time of the emergency. Traces of explosives were found at the crash site. The Russian Federation called the incident an act of state terrorism.
