Goyal will review the talks on FTA between India and Canada so far

New Delhi, 08 May (Hindustan Times). The trade ministers of India and Canada will review the ongoing negotiations on the proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is on a visit to Canada for the proposed FTA talks.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement on Monday that Piyush Goyal will review the proposed FTA with his Canadian counterpart Mary Ng and during this time the two leaders will also discuss strengthening economic ties. Along with Piyush Goyal, Mary Ng will co-chair the discussions for the 6th India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue (MDTI) in Ottawa, according to the statement. The MDTI is a bilateral mechanism that provides an institutionalized mechanism to discuss trade and investment related issues and areas of cooperation.

According to the ministry, the discussion between the two leaders will focus on various topics including strengthening bilateral trade ties, promoting investment, green transformation. During this, both the leaders will also review the ongoing negotiations on India-Canada CEPA (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement). Union Commerce and Industry Minister is on an official visit to Canada from 8th to 11th May for talks on FTA. Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development Mary Ng will host India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry.
