Kanpur News: IIT Kanpur has launched Online Rural Education Initiative (OREI) to provide high quality education in villages through its Ranjit Singh Rosie Shiksha Kendra. It was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra. Under the program, soon students of 100 rural schools and later all schools of the state will get its benefit. The Chief Secretary informed that soon preparations are being made to start smart classes in all secondary schools of the state.
Classes will increase in the coming time
IIT Kanpur Director Prof. Abhay Karandikar told that Ranjit Singh Rosie Education Center is an in-house project, which has been established to reach out to nearby villages and increase the employability of rural youth. OREI aims to ensure quality education to rural children with the help of innovation and technology. This initiative was started under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of the Government of India.
Students studying in smart class in modern style
The pilot program was started in two schools Ram Janki Inter College, Bithoor and Bhartiya Gramin Vidyalaya Mohana, Lucknow. After a period of one year the project was taken up by the Department of Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh for government secondary schools. Teaching under OREI is carried out from a smart classroom at IIT Kanpur, where modern technology enables two-way communication between the children and the faculty at IIT Kanpur.

Students of 11th and 12th will also get benefits in future
With the help of advanced technology both the parties can see and talk to each other in real time and teachers can ensure that the classes are interactive in nature. Presently OREI provides education for students in class IX and class X through two daily classes. Classes for class 11th and 12th will be added in the coming year.
Project run by PhD scholars
RSK Principal Investigator Prof. Sandeep Sangal informed that the project is run on a voluntary basis by a large number of PhD scholars, who are engaged in teaching under the guidance of experts. The work of planning for the entire academic year has already been done in the beginning. The project is child centered and allows backward planning design of learning objectives, tools, techniques based on content and assessment. It aims to encourage active learning methods to make learning fun and interactive.
