After India hosted a very successful meeting of foreign ministers of the G-20 countries, the US said on Thursday that India is going to make a very promising start to its presidency of the G-20.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price said at his daily press conference, “We are grateful to our Indian partners for the way they have led the G-20 to date. As you mentioned there is a lot more to be done this year… India is going to make a very promising start to its presidency of the G-20.
Price said the Indo-US partnership was discussed between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar in New Delhi. Describing the relationship with India as one of America’s most important, Price said, “It is because we work together with India on everything that is a priority for us and that is also a priority for India.” The priority is… this includes advancing our mutual prosperity, supporting democracy, overcoming the climate crisis and upholding the rule of international law.”
“The rule of law is important to us around the world, but especially in the context of the Indo-Pacific region, it is extremely important to both the United States and India,” he said.
“It helps build and protect a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” Price said. This is a vision we share with our Indian counterparts.
Blinken and Jaishankar discussed the meeting of foreign ministers and finance ministers of the G-20 countries, apart from the work done by India so far, to create an agenda that would help them deal with issues related to global and strategic partnership. Price said that G20 is very important for India and America.
