Indian-American community raises funds for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria

Citizens of Indian origin in the US have raised over $3,00,000 for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.

Several eminent Indian Americans, led by Dr. Hemant Patel, former president of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), raised more than $2,30,000.

Turkey’s Consul General in New York, Reyhan Ozgur, along with Murat Merkan, Turkey’s ambassador to the US, attended a weekend event in New Jersey to raise funds. He thanked the Indian-American community for helping the earthquake victims in his country.

Patel, who was awarded the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, told PTI, “They (ambassadors and consuls) expressed their gratitude for what the Indian community is doing for the people of Turkey.”
