Dharamshala, May 17 (Hindustan Times). In the 64th match of IPL 2023 played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium, Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by 15 runs. With this defeat, Punjab’s hopes of reaching the playoffs were dashed. However, this match was full of revenge for Delhi in a way as earlier Punjab had eliminated Delhi from the playoffs by defeating them on their ground.

Chasing a mammoth target of 214 runs in the match, Punjab Kings did not get off to a good start. Captain Shikhar Dhawan got out without opening the account. After this, Prabhsimran Singh and Atharv Tawde added 49 runs for the second wicket. Akshar Patel broke this partnership by dismissing Prabhsimran (22 runs). Liam Livingston, who came to bat at number three, along with Tawde, created a tremendous platform. Together they added 78 runs in 50 balls.

Then Jitesh Sharma was dismissed early on zero, Shahrukh Khan on 6 runs, Sam Karan on 11 runs and Harpreet Brar on zero. Wickets kept falling from one end but Livingston stood firm at the other end and kept scoring runs. In the last over, Punjab had scored 33 runs to win but could only score 17 runs. Livingston was dismissed on the last ball of the innings after scoring 94 runs. For Delhi, Ishant Sharma and Enrique Norkia got two wickets each, while Khalil Ahmed and Akshar Patel got one success each.

Earlier, Delhi batted first after losing the toss and posted a mammoth score of 213 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Captain David Warner and Prithvi Shaw got off to a brisk start for Delhi. Both scored 94 runs in the first ten overs. The first blow to the team came in the form of Warner, who was dismissed by Sam Karan. Warner scored 46 runs in 31 balls. After Warner, Prithvi shared a 54-run partnership for the second wicket with Riley Russo. Then Shikhar Dhawan caught a brilliant catch of Prithvi Shaw off the ball of Sam Karan. Shaw played an inning of 54 runs in 27 balls. Riley Russo then added 65 runs in the last five overs along with Phil Salt. Rousseau remained unbeaten on 82 off 37 balls and Salt on 26. The only successful bowler for Punjab was Sam Karan, who got two wickets.
