Three Bangladeshi nationals, two of whom had recently returned from Italy have been detected of carrying highly contagious coronavirus. The affected people, aged between 20 and 35, include two people who returned home from Italy recently, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Director Meerjady Sabrina told reporters.

Italy placed up to 16 million people under quarantine as it battles to contain the spread of coronavirus.

According to health experts, with the first cases of coronavirus confirmed in Bangladesh, the government’s preparation to contain the spread of coronavirus still appears to be inadequate. Many countries have taken drastic measures as they are battling to contain its spread.

Health experts further said, in case of an outbreak, the temperature checking at airports and land ports, and lack of coordination among departments may not be of much help.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), many hospitals are yet to receive personal protective equipment (PPE) and other things needed for treating coronavirus patients.

The government has prepared a four-tier emergency plan based on the level of an outbreak. The country is at emergency level-2.

If the situation deteriorates and the country has more than 10 confirmed cases with more local transmissions in multiple areas, the emergency would be raised to level-3.

The level-4 would mean there is an epidemic.

At levels 3 or 4, the administration would lock down areas having a high number of patients and quarantine the suspected cases, according to the plan.

In the South Asian region, India is already witnessing a very high-number of coronavirus patients around the country.
