Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas met with the leadership of the left-wing Israel group J Street on Wednesday at his headquarters in Ramallah and gave his appreciation for the organization’s support of a two-state solution, despite his opposition to it.
Led by J Street Executive Director Jeremy Ben Ami, the group was thanked by Abbas for “their efforts to support the peace process within American society,” according to the official P.A. news site Wafa.
According to the outlet, Ben Ami stressed that his firm is dedicated to “supporting peace and continuing to work in American Jewish circles and with American society to achieve peace.”
The group “affirmed their readiness to continue efforts to resume the peace process on the basis of a two-state solution.”
“We distinguish between America and the current American administration that has brought the peace process to a dead end,” Abbas told the delegation.
Also in attendance were PLO Executive Committee members Ahmad Majdalani and Ziad Abu Amr, Fatah Central Committee member Hussein al-Sheikh, P.A. General Intelligence Services chief Majid Faraj and Fatah spokesman Osama Qawasma.
