Panchayatnama: On the instructions of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the notified schemes started during the transition period are now bringing pleasant results. Due to this, where the migration has reduced, on the other hand, the youth are now becoming self-sufficient by doing fish farming. This is the reason that in the financial year 2022-23, about 23 thousand tonnes more fish was produced in the state. Along with this, 1.65 lakh farmers and fish farmers are associated with the business of fish production.
Fish production by modern method in Chaibasa
The Chaibasa district administration was ahead in giving the benefits of the notified schemes started during the transition period to the beneficiaries. The youth here also went ahead and took advantage of the schemes. With the help of biofloc technology, the youth here are getting four to five quintal production per tank by rearing fish like Komonkar / Monosels / Tailapii with less water and average cost on a small area of land. In the past, the youth here who had the intention of migrating due to unemployment, were benefited by encouraging them with the technology operated on 40 to 60 percent grant under the scheme notified by the District Fisheries Office during the Covid-19 disaster. As a result, today everyone is earning a better living by living in their own area.
Use of reservoirs and mines, income from boating also
It is not that the government is giving priority to fish farming in Chaibasa only through biofloc method, but people are becoming self-sufficient by doing fish farming in six reservoirs and two mine ponds here. Not only fish farming is done in these reservoirs, but from the point of view of tourism, motor boats/pedal boats were given to fisheries societies, so that they can earn good income from cage method as well as from tourism. Modi Reservoir in Sadar Block, Jainasai Reservoir in Chakradharpur Block, Nakti Reservoir in Bandgaon Block, Pansua Reservoir in Sonua Block, Belma Reservoir in Manjhgaon Block, Torlo Reservoir in Manjhari Block and other water bodies in the district are now providing opportunities to local people for fishing and tourism. In this regard, West Singhbhum DC Ananya Mittal said that on the instructions of the CM, fish farming from biofloc, fish farming from cage culture in reservoirs for sustainable income, boating to promote tourism and availability of better technology to get maximum agricultural production. To do this, local youths were made aware on the participation of various departments. After which youths, farmers and committees were encouraged through beneficial contribution in the schemes run by the departments or full contribution from the items available in the district after training according to their interest. Now after getting the employment opportunity at the local level, the youth are progressive to move ahead in life and are setting an example for other youths by getting better income from home-based employment.
