A massive fire broke out on Thursday-Friday night at Hamraj Complex in Kanpur, which is one of the biggest hosiery markets in the country. In the fire, more than 1000 wholesale shops in the hosiery market were gutted and hundreds were completely gutted. The fire was so strong that the army had to be called in early on Friday to control it. The fire, which started at one o’clock on Thursday night, could not be extinguished even after six hours.
Almost the entire market was closed at the time of the fire and it was too late by the time the fire brigade arrived. It is estimated that the fire in the hosiery market has destroyed the finished goods worth crores. In view of the festival of Eid, almost all the shops in the market were full of ready-made goods, due to which the loss is expected to be more. From this hosiery market of Kanpur, goods go to entire Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. According to the information, a spark arose from the electric transformer near Hamraj Complex in the midst of rain late on Thursday night and engulfed a shop. Within no time, the fire spread to the whole market and in no time there was devastation. The people around informed the fire brigade about the fire and within an hour the fire tenders reached. The fire also engulfed the neighboring AR Complex, though there was no major damage.
Officials of the Kanpur district administration say that 35 fire engines are engaged in extinguishing the fire, while the army has also been called for help in the morning itself. Sealing the entire area, more than 1000 police personnel have been deployed. There is no news of any loss of life in the fire, although some people are definitely scorched while trying to remove the goods. A young man sleeping in the verandah of the neighboring AR Complex is said to be missing.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the fire incident in Kanpur and gave instructions for proper treatment of the injured. He said that fire brigade teams are engaged on war footing and all officers have been asked to reach the spot.
