Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood has been appointed as the next director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This information was given in a government order on Sunday. According to officials, Sood has been appointed to the post for two years from the date of assuming office after Subodh Kumar Jaiswal completed his tenure on May 25. Officials said that Sood is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Karnataka cadre and is the senior-most IPS officer in the country after Jaiswal.

CBI director for two years: The Department of Personnel and Training said in an order that the approval of the competent authority is conveyed for the appointment of Praveen Sood as CBI Director for two years after the completion of the tenure of Subodh Kumar Jaiswal. Sood is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi, Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Bangalore and Syracuse University in New York. Sood was to retire in the year 2024, but now he will have a fixed tenure of two years.

Sood has served on many posts: Karnataka’s Director General of Police Praveen Sood is currently the Director General of Karnataka Police. Prior to this, he was the Superintendent of Police of Bellary and Raichur districts. He was the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in Bangalore City and Commissioner of Police of Mysore City. The IPS officer has also served as the Police Advisor to the Government of Mauritius.
