Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood has been appointed as the next director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This information was given in a government order on Sunday. According to officials, Sood has been appointed to the post for two years from the date of assuming office after Subodh Kumar Jaiswal completed his tenure on May 25. Officials said that Sood is a 1986 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Karnataka cadre and is the senior-most IPS officer in the country after Jaiswal.

Sood is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi, Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Bangalore and Syracuse University in New York. Sood was to retire in the year 2024, but now he will have a fixed tenure of two years.

Prior to this, he was the Superintendent of Police of Bellary and Raichur districts.
