Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the Modi government never took populist decisions for the sake of vote bank politics, rather it worked for the welfare of the people and ensured political stability in the country.
Addressing the annual session of industry body Assocham on Tuesday, Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has realized the concept of “Team India”. This is the reason why good results have been achieved in every field in the last nine years.
Shah said, “When we take decisions, we have in front of us the betterment of the country or any region. Efforts to organize the system in the country are in the mind. We do not take decisions keeping in mind the vote bank, otherwise GST would never have come in this country. We know that there are a large number of people in the country who make fun of GST by calling it ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’. But we never paid attention to it.
Speaking at the event titled ‘[email protected] Pathway to Inclusive and Sustainable Global Growth’, the Home Minister said Modi ensured political stability in the country.
He further said, “The period under Modi’s leadership will be known as the period of ‘political stability’ in the history of Indian democracy.”
He said that the central government is working to bring down the logistics cost to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from the current 13 per cent to 7.5 per cent.
He said that development is not possible without the development of country’s infrastructure and reduction in logistics cost. He said that the logistics cost in India is 13 per cent of GDP while it is eight per cent in the rest of the world. This makes it difficult for India’s exports to be globally competitive.
The Union Home Minister said, “We have to remove this difference of 13 percent and eight percent. We have made a roadmap for the next five years. I want to assure that in the next five years, we will bring down the logistics cost to 7.5 percent.
Shah said the Narendra Modi government plans to invest Rs 100 lakh crore in infrastructure, including doubling of railway lines, their widening, freight corridors between Mumbai to Delhi and Amritsar to Kolkata, besides 11 other industrial corridors. Large projects are involved.
Listing other achievements in the infrastructure sector, Shah said the government has set a target of bringing down the logistics cost below the national average by 2028 to make exports globally competitive.
He expressed confidence that the Modi government has laid a strong foundation to make India a developed nation by 2047 and a five trillion dollar economy by 2025. He said that now almost every business is using UPI.
Shah said, “UPI’s share in 8,840 crore digital transactions in 2022 is 52 percent i.e. Rs 1.26 lakh crore.” .
