Patna. A high-powered committee of the UGC has drafted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to appoint artists and artisans as professors in higher educational institutions. In this, they will provide services in higher educational institutions but will not be regular. They will take classes in the college, but will not be regular. They will give lectures, conduct workshops, practicals and training. Colleges will be able to serve for three years after fulfilling various criteria and selected by the selection committee. Under this rule, weavers, artisans, singers, dancers and carpenters will also join and take classes. They will be made professors under in-residence in the institutes. There will be no age limit and no degree will be required. Along with studies, they will also make the students proficient in research and skill development.

UGC Chairman Prof M Jagdish Kumar said that the guideline has been prepared under the National Education Policy 2020. Its purpose is to connect students with studies as well as skill development and Indian traditional art. Students will also get a chance to come face to face with local level art and workmanship. There will be appointments at three levels

International, national, central or state government awards and artists and artisans with at least five years of experience in their respective fields will get a chance. Experts in art, craft, dance, music, fine art etc. will be able to apply. In this, local artists and artisans will get a chance to move forward. There will be appointments at three levels. The first level would be the Parmeshthi Guru (eminent artist and artisan). They should have at least 10 years of experience and have received awards at international or national level. At the second level would be the Param Guru (extraordinary artist and artisan). At the same time, there will be gurus (artists and artisans) at the third level. In this class, it will be necessary to have at least five years of experience in their field.
