Nepal: Three Sherpa guides killed in avalanche near Mount Everest

Kathmandu, 12 April (Hindustan). Three Sherpa guides have been buried under snow in an avalanche near Mount Everest in Nepal. A helicopter search operation was launched to find the three missing guides after the avalanche, but their bodies could not be recovered.

Sita Adhikari, Information Officer, Solukhumbu District Administration Office said that the avalanche occurred at 11 am today. Three missing Sherpa guides have been confirmed dead after a helicopter search operation. Among the dead are Temba Tenji Sherpa, Lakpa Rita Sherpa and Badure Sherpa. All three were employed in delivering essential materials to the members of the Mount Everest climbing team. He was the Everest climbing guide from the Imagine Track. Their dead bodies have not been recovered, because they are buried very deep (Khoch).

The site of the incident is three days’ walk from Namche Bazaar near Everest. The tourism department has told that this place is at an altitude of 5,700 meters. The three deceased were practicing before climbing Everest. Everest climbing season is starting. Before this, climbers and assistants approach Everest for pre-training. Nepal’s tourism department has already given permission to 559 people from 66 climbing groups this season. There are 243 people, including 41 women, in 24 climbing teams to climb Everest.
