Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Chess Federation, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said on February 28 that the organization’s move to Asia is good news.

“The transition to the Asian Federation will open the doors for the participation of our athletes, chess players, grandmasters in the main world and international competitions,” he said in a conversation with “RIA News”.

Speaking about the possible transition of other sports federations to Asia, Peskov stressed that in this case, one must act very carefully.

“Different sports have different situations, and this should be decided in each case by specialists,” he added.

Earlier on the same day, the delegates of the General Assembly of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) supported the inclusion of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) into the organization by a majority of votes.

Grandmaster Sergey Karyakin said he was happy with this event, as the transition will enable Russian athletes to participate in Asian championships, where there are strong opponents, writes “Gazeta.Ru”.

In March 2022, FIDE announced the removal of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from competitions under the auspices of the organization. It was about team tournaments, including the World Chess Olympiad. The team was also expelled from the European Chess Union.
