PLO rejects Nikki Haley’s call on UN to denounce Hamas

The Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) announced Sunday its rejection of the American administration’s attempt to condemn Hamas before the United Nations.

US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, who leaves her post by year’s end, is promoting a resolution condemning Hamas’s rocket fire at Israel and incitement against the Jewish State, demanding a halt to violent activities, including launching incendiary balloons from the Gaza Strip into Israel.

Haley, who is cooperating with Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, also demands an end to the Hamas terror tunnels, calling on the UN to condemn Hamas’s use of civilian resources to build up its military force.

PLO Secretary General Saeb Erekat said the American resolution “turns the facts upside down.”

“Israel is the one who bears full responsibility as a result of the continuation of its occupation and its colonial settlement,” Erekat said, accusing Israel of “imposing a siege, carrying out arbitrary arrests and committing ethnic cleansing.”

The PLO leader called on the international community to condemn the US administration for “turning against international laws and treaties.”

At the same time, Erekat urged Hamas to immediately respond to Egyptian efforts to “end the internal Palestinian division and achieve reconciliation.”

It should be noted that Erekat’s wish may come true sooner than he expects, with the nearing demise of PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas. It is quite possible that Hamas would use the death of Abbas to effectively take over the Palestinian Authority, unifying it under the terror group’s hegemony.
