President M Abdul Hamid asks army to stand by people

President M Abdul Hamid asked the members of Bangladesh Army to stand by the people at the time of their needs as the new Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed called on him at Bangabhaban here last evening.

Welcoming the new army chief, the President highlighted the glorious role of Bangladesh Army at the national and international levels, President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

Recalling the outstanding contribution of the army personnel at the time of country’s need, Abdul Hamid said the army has always come forward in times of crisis, including various natural disasters.

President Hamid hoped that under the efficient leadership of the new chief, the Bangladesh Army would become an international standard force in future equipped with modern technology.

It would also play a leading role in the needs of the country, the head of the state hoped.

During the meeting, the new army chief sought the President’s guidance and overall cooperation in doing his assignments in the days to come.

Abdul Hamid wished the new army chief success in his duties.

President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salah Uddin Islam, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin and Secretary (attachment) Wahidul Islam Khan were present at the time.

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was adorned with the new rank badge of General in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was adorned with the new rank badge of General in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Thursday.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan adorned the Army Chief with the rank badge of General.

Prime Minister’s Assistant Press Secretary MM Emrul Kayas confirmed the BSS of the matter.

After the ceremony, he said, the premier congratulated the new army chief by presenting a bouquet and wished his success.

The Army Chief also greeted the Prime Minister by presenting a bouquet and sought her blessing.

Prime Minister’s Security Affairs Adviser Major General (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division, Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Prime Minister’s Office Secretary Md. Tofazzel Hossain Miah, Director General of Special Security Force Major General Md Majibur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Military Secretary Major General Naquib Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, were present.

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed replaced former Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed.

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been appointed to this position for the next three years.
