For the first time in the 50-year history of Rajkot Corporation, its seat has been snatched from the opposition. The Congress last ruled the corporation in 2005. Today, the Congress does not have an opposition post in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation. On snatching the post of opposition, the Congress said that it would sit in the garden and listen to the questions of the public.
Facility Withdrawn from Congress
The rulers on Wednesday ordered the Congress leader to withdraw the state facilities including post, vehicle, office. After this order, Bhanuben Sorani handed over all these facilities along with the keys to the department and deposited all the facilities including car and office in the afternoon. Earlier in the history of Junagadh Municipal Corporation, the position of opposition was snatched away.
Congress hit hard
Rajkot Corporation has 68 BJP corporators, two Congress and two AAP corporators. Congress leader Ashok Dangar attacked the ruler in this matter. He said that we will solve the problems of the people even by sitting in the garden. Apart from this, Congress leader Mahesh Rajput said that it is a matter of suppressing the voice of democracy. Earlier, Ward 15 Congress corporators Vashrambhai Sagathia and Komalben Bharai had joined AAP. Thus Congress had only two corporators in Rajkot Municipal Corporation apart from Bhanuben Sorani and Maqbulbhai Daudani.
Earlier in Junagadh also his post was snatched from the opposition
Before the assembly elections, two corporators of the Congress had joined the Aam Aadmi Party. In the corporation elections held in March-April 2021, 68 BJP councilors and 4 Congress councilors were elected. However, the Congress was given the post of Leader of the Opposition. A few days back, in Junagadh Municipal Corporation too, the post of Leader of Opposition was snatched from the Congress. This decision was taken because Junagadh Municipal Corporation has a total of 60 corporators, Congress has only 3 corporators. In Junagadh, the Congress strongly opposed this matter.
