To prevent the alleged exploitation and harassment of pilgrims by e-rickshaw drivers in Mathura, the district administration has made registration of this vehicle mandatory.

Deputy Collector Govardhan Kamlesh Goyal said on Wednesday, “In the first phase, the rule will apply to e-rickshaws plying on the Govardhan Parikrama Marg. Only 400 e-rickshaws with valid registration numbers will be allowed to ply on the circumambulation route.”

He said that every e-rickshaw plying on the Parikrama Marg would display fare list for different distances, registration number and police telephone number on the vehicle.

According to officials, in the first phase this system will be applicable to e-rickshaws plying on the approximately 22 km long Govardhan Parikrama route while other areas will be covered in subsequent phases. Usually a large number of devotees complete the Govardhan Parikrama on foot. However, some elderly and senior citizens also use e-rickshaw service for this.

Officials said that the uniform code will also be applicable for the drivers of e-rickshaws. They will also be given a token to prove their identity. This system will be applicable from April 1.
