Romania moving embassy to Jerusalem

The first day of the annual gathering of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Washington DC kicked off Sunday with exciting announcements by the nations of Honduras and Romania, both promising to move their embassies to Jerusalem.

Romania’s Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă promised her government would move its Embassy to Jerusalem, “the capital of the State of Israel,” bringing the hall to its feet in a standing ovation.

“I can promise you this,” she said. “Romania will remain the same loyal friend and the strongest European voice in support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel.”

Dăncilă’s announcement came on the heels of a similar one by Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez, who said his nation would open a diplomatic mission that would “extend our embassy to the capital of Israel, Jerusalem.”

Some 18,000 pro-Israel Americans, including more than 4,000 students and nearly 275 Student Government presidents, are attending this year’s gathering – said to be the largest AIPAC Policy Conference ever.
