The government told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that out of Rs 1,775.77 crore allocated under the Khelo India scheme in the last three years, Rs 1,677.87 crore was spent. This information was given by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur in a written reply to a question by PV Mithun Reddy in the Lok Sabha.
The member asked the purpose of the Khelo India scheme and sought details of expenditure under it in the last three years. To this, Thakur informed that Khelo India program was launched to increase the scope of sports in the country and to explore the hidden talents in rural areas.
According to the data presented in the House by the Union Sports Minister, Rs 1,775.77 crore was allocated under the Khelo India scheme during the years 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22, out of which Rs 1,677.87 crore was spent.
Anurag Thakur said that under the Khelo India scheme, there is a provision for monitoring the scheme through the National Level Executive Committee (NLIC). The NLIC is headed by the Secretary, Department of Sports to set up a central evaluation and monitoring system.
