Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan speaks about security situation in the country

Over the past six months, which have passed since the terrorist attack near the Russian embassy in Kabul, the situation in the country has only changed for the worse. Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.

“Since September, the terrorist underground, unfortunately, has become even more inflated,” he said.

Examples of this, the Russian diplomat, in particular, called the terrorist attack near the hotel where the Chinese stayed, the attack on the Pakistani ambassador, attacks at the entrances to the airport and the Afghan Foreign Ministry. A month earlier, there was an attack on the Pakistani ambassador, as well as a terrorist attack in October on the headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which was previously considered impregnable.

“This has never happened before. The terrorists did not behave so boldly and defiantly. And this is only Kabul and only the largest terrorist attacks. Across the country, there are attacks on mosques, schools, checkpoints, and buses. So things are not going very well, ”Dmitry Zhirnov emphasized.

At the same time, he noted that over the past year and a half after the Taliban came to power, this was not always the case, and at first the Taliban (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities) managed to restrain the terrorist underground.
