The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Dhaka has extended congratulations to the government and people of Bangladesh on the upcoming inauguration of the multipurpose Padma Bridge.

In a press release issued on June 20, Russian embassy said: The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Dhaka sincerely congratulates the Government and the people of Bangladesh on the upcoming inauguration of the multipurpose Padma Bridge. It is commendable that this ambitious mega-project has been completely funded by Dhaka’s own resources.

Padma Bridge is a true game changer as it offers multiple opportunities in terms of regional trade, investments, connectivity, employment, tourism, and many other fields. Without doubt, it will largely contribute to the national GDP growth and will benefit the comprehensive development of the southwestern parts of Bangladesh.

The construction of Padma Bridge is a landmark achievement made possible by the far-sighted vision of the Bangladeshi government and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The dream of Sonar Bangla cherished by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is coming true right before our eyes.

Undoubtedly, the implementation of other mega projects including the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant with the assistance of the Russian company “Rosatom” will further contribute to the successful development story of Bangladesh, to prosperity and well-being of its people.

It may be mentioned here that on June 25, 2022, multipurpose Padma Bridge shall be inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This multipurpose road-rail bridge across the Padma River will be linking the south-west of the country to northern and eastern regions. This bridge is considered as the most challenging construction project in the history of Bangladesh. The two-level steel truss bridge carried a four-lane highway on the upper level and a single-track railway on a lower level. The Padma Bridge with 150.12-meter (492.50 feet) long 41 spans, 6.150 kilometers (3.821 miles) total length and 22.50 meters (74 feet) width is the longest bridge in Bangladesh and longest over Ganges in terms of both span and the total length. The highest depth of pile of this bridge is 122 meters, which is highest among all other bridges. This bridge is expected to boost country’s GDP by as much as 1.20 percent.

  1. Indeed, “The dream of Sonar Bangla cherished by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is coming true right before our eyes.” PM Sheikh Hasina has proved that she can fulfil the dream of Bangabandhu. Now she should take an extraordinary domestic policy of “people’s happiness”. And honest & transparent foreign policy to unite the world for the sake of peace, love, and justice.
