On November 19, 2022 at 5:21 PM Bangladesh time, internationally acclaimed multi-award-winning anti-militancy journalist and editor of Blitz, Salah Uddin Shoaib Choudhury received a text message from a local mobile phone number 0181-5310463 stating:

“New login (trxrusd[dot]com account: Dairo 29, login password: ar6609, current balance 2,876100.50 USDT, please do not share with anyone”.

As the text was totally ridiculous reporters of Blitz became curious about the identity of the user of the phone number 0181-5310463. The number is issued by Airtel mobile operator, while the SIM of this number is unregistered. It may be mentioned here that, as per Bangladesh laws and regulations set by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), selling unregistered mobile SIM is illegal and a punishable crime.

Our reporters also found, user of 0181-5310463 number is using at least 100 mobile phone SIMs only from Airtel. Similar text messages are sent by this scam gang to various individuals at random, while they get mobile phone numbers of the targeted people from the respective mobile phone operators.

It is also learnt, once anyone logs into the website provided by the scammers, his/her mobile phones are immediately infected by malware. Once mobile phone sets are infected by malware, all information in the set is stolen by the cybercrime racket.

Another source said, trxrusd website is operated by crypto scammers who send similar text messages to targeted people with the ulterior motive scamming them.

It added, since Blitz has been exposing crimes committed by crypto scammers and as the newspaper has recently published several reports on FTX crash, it is anticipated that some large crypto companies might be behind sending the above-mentioned text message to Blitz editor.
