Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has turned into a time-winning statesman crossing the boundary of an ordinary politician.

“From a struggling leader, she (Sheikh Hasina) is now a time-winning statesman,” he told the inaugural ceremony of a documentary exhibition marking AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day on the premises of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi road number 32.

Quader joined it through a videoconference from his official residence here.

AL’s information and research affairs sub-committee arranged the two-day exhibition titled “Sheikh Hasina’s Four Decades: Indomitable Progress of Changed Bangladesh”

AL Advisory Council Member Dr Mashiur Rahman presided over the function virtually while Dhaka University former Vice-Chancellor and chairman of the board of directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique joined it virtually as the discussant.

The AL general secretary said Sheikh Hasina has turned into a popular politician and leader of development from a struggling leader.

Because of her efforts, now the nation can know the true history of the Liberation War, he added.

He said as Sheikh Hasina returned home on May 17 in 1981 after a long exile, verdicts of the trials of killers of Bangabandhu and war criminals have been executed and thus Bangladesh got freed from stigma.

Quader said Bangladesh has settled land and maritime boundary and enclave issues with neighboring countries and achieved a fair share of the Ganges water because of the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

As she had returned home, the construction of much-anticipated Padma Bridge is now at the final stage, he said, adding that besides different mega projects, including construction works of metro-rail and Bangabandhu Tunnel beneath the Karnafuli river, first of its kind in South Asia, are progressing fast.

The minister said Bangladesh has entered the space with the launching of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

Today, Bangladesh is marching ahead in an indomitable speed surpassing Pakistan in all socio-economic indexes, excepting only atomic bomb, he said.

The AL general secretary said Sheikh Hasina is the most successful, courageous and humanitarian statesman in the post 1975 period.

Mentioning that Sheikh Hasina is the name of the most successful diplomat, he said her path of this long journey was not a bed of roses but she marched ahead for the attaining emancipation of the people and restoring democracy from confinement.

Quader said after returning home in 1981, Sheikh Hasina organized the party which was afflicted with wrangling and quarrels and today she passed four decades as the AL president.

With the love of people, she became the prime minister for three consecutive terms and total four terms because of her able leadership, he said.

The minister said the premier has been able to keep the country in a stable position during the coronavirus crisis by making a balance between life and living.

Sheikh Hasina has turned the food-deficit country into a food surplus one, he said.

AL Organizing Secretary Afjal Hossain, Information and Research Secretary Dr Selim Mahmud and Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were present, among others, at the inaugural ceremony at Bangabandhu Bhaban end.
