Washington, April 27 (Hindustan). Former US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has said that the US will have to show strategic patience on the relationship between India and Russia. During the India-US summit held here, he said that India is moving in the right direction in this matter.

Jim Mattis said that after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, India has never supported this attack. In these situations, America will have to show strategic patience between the relationship between India and Russia. He said that the defense ties between India and America have not only strengthened but are also growing rapidly. Reiterating India’s stand of not supporting the Russian attack on Ukraine, he said that Indian Prime Minister Modi has been very clear on this issue. He also suggested to India that considering the proximity of Russia and China, India would have to formulate a strategy. India’s relations with Russia are not a matter of concern for the US.

Mattis also said that India has not yet condemned the Russian attacks on Ukraine. India has abstained from votes in UN forums on the Russian aggression. India is seeking to stop the war in Ukraine through diplomacy and dialogue. He said that this is the time to work together with India. On one side where India has Pakistan with radical nuclear weapons as a neighboring nation, on the other side there is China who keeps trying to threaten India. India is a place where we need to focus. Here we have many opportunities to do.
