In many districts of East and North Bihar, the roofs of many houses were uprooted and trees fell due to the storm that came late on Sunday night. Supaul, Madhepura, Samastipur, West Champaran and other districts have suffered a lot due to the strong storm. In Bhagalpur, there was extensive damage in the districts of Kosi-Seemanchal and Anga region due to the storm which came late on Sunday night. In districts like Banka, Katihar, power supply remained suspended in some areas till Monday evening, whereas, due to strong wind, fire broke out in areas like Purnia, Bhagalpur, Supaul, due to which many houses got burnt. Six people died due to falling wall and tree. Whereas in Bhagalpur, a daughter’s father died of shock due to the collapse of the tent due to the storm.
Four died in Madhepura
Rudra Narayan Prasad Yadav in ward no. 7 of Jorgama panchayat of Murliganj block area of Madhepura, Vikas Kumar in ward no. 10 of Kushaha Tola of Bellary panchayat of Kumarkhand block, a woman resident of ward no. Was sleeping with Nisha. Meanwhile, the woman died due to falling of the wall. Surendra Mushar’s wife Umda Devi was sleeping in the house with her granddaughter in ward number five Mahadalit Tola. He died due to roof collapse.
Coconut tree fell on the child in Supaul
A coconut tree fell on Parmanand Ram’s six-year-old daughter Gauri Kumari in Ward No. 12 of Sukhanagar Panchayat of Pratapganj police station area of Supaul. Due to this he died. Elderly Laxmi Yadav died in Gadhiya Vishnupur ward number 10 of Gadhiya Baluva Panchayat of Srinagar block of Purnia.
Tent blown away in storm, daughter’s father dies of shock
The second daughter of Anandi Mandal (60) was married to a railway worker in Srichak village of Kamalpur panchayat of Bhagalpur. Daughter’s wedding procession was to come on Monday. The strong storm on Sunday night completely damaged the tents and decorations. Seeing the damaged mandap, the girl’s father could not tolerate this shock and suddenly he died due to cardiac arrest.
Damage to mango and litchi crops
Due to the strong storm in Samastipur, mango and litchi crops have suffered a lot. In Vidyapatinagar, the house was damaged due to falling of a tree, while a woman was injured. Electric pole broke at Hasanpur. The storm has damaged mango, litchi, banana, papaya. Mango and litchi pods are broken. District Agriculture Department and Horticulture Department are engaged in assessing the damage.

Motihari city and surrounding black out
Due to the strong storm in Motihari, power supply came to a standstill due to breaking of electric wires and falling of trees. A tree fell on the 33,000 KVA wire in Belisarai sub-station Balganga, due to which the supply was stopped. There was no supply even after having full load power in the grid. According to the department, after the storm, minor defects in the Jamla feeder were rectified and made operational. Efforts were being made to restore power supply in the remaining feeders like Turkaulia, Kotwa, Belisarai, Chatauni, Chhota Bariyarpur, Banjariya etc.
