The birth anniversary of Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, is tomorrow i.e. on 04 April. Mahavir Jayanti is celebrated every year on the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month. Lord Mahavir Swami was born around 599 BC in Kundagram, Bihar. His childhood name was Vardhaman. It is said that at the age of 30, Mahavir Swami renounced the pleasures of royal palaces and took sanyasa.

As soon as he retired, he went to the forests in search of truth, where he did severe penance for twelve years. After performing severe penance, he attained Kaivalya Gyan under a Sal tree on the banks of Rijubaluka river.

Mahavir Swami also gave sermons for social reform and welfare of the people.

According to the Panchang, on April 03, 2023, the Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month will start at 06:24 in the morning. This date will end on 04 April 2023 at 08.05 am. Udaya Tithi is being received on 04 April, so Mahavir Jayanti will be celebrated on 04 April only. This year the 2621st birthday of Lord Mahavir will be celebrated.

Lord Mahavira is the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism. The day of Mahavir Jayanti is very important for the people of Jainism. On this day people take out Prabhat Pheri, rituals and processions.

Lord Mahavir has given the principles for a person to follow in life. These are called Panchsheel principles. These five principles are non-violence, asteya, brahmacharya, satya and aparigraha.
