For the past couple of years, investigative team of Blitz has been running comprehensive research and information-gathering, with the goal of tracking the trails of the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. As part of our investigation, we have gathered vital information from several credible sources, including some intelligence sources. Based on these data, we are publishing this serialized investigative report. This is the fourth part of a series of investigative articles, where we eventually have succeeded in finding the current locations of a number of the self-proclaimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Main agenda of Freedom Party in Bangladesh was to increase its strength within Bangladesh by recruiting mostly well-known terrorists and criminals in the country, thus providing them financial support, trips to Libya and guerilla trainings. At the special patronization of Muammar Gaddafi, the Freedom Party leadership was building a notorious terror outfit under the garb of Freedom Party, which was gaining strength for staging any sort of militant actions aimed at subversion and chaos inside Bangladesh.

In addition to funding Freedom Party in Bangladesh, the Libyan dictator was heavily funding Bangladesh-Libya Friendship Society, the Monthly Islamic Times and Brother Gaddafi Kindergarten School. The Bangladesh-Libya Friendship Society was running a printing press named Progoti Printers in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area since 1977, where publication materials such as a monthly bulletin named Shobuj Obhijan (Green March) as well as Bangla version of Gaddafi’s “Green Book” were printed and distributed among the people on complimentary basis. It is learned that the Libyan dictator was spending around US$ 1-2 million annually in Bangladesh for continuing Bangladesh-Libya Friendship Society, the Monthly Islamic Times and Brother Gaddafi Kindergarten School projects.

Office of the Bangladesh-Libya Friendship Society was located at the ground floor of a two-storied building at Outer Circular Road, Moghbazar, Dhaka, whereas Progoti Printers was housed at the garage and there actually was no specific office of the Islamic Times and Shobuj Obhijan. Mainul Islam was sitting in a room in the building while other rooms were left although having office furniture, but there was no staff of the friendship society. They only staffs in the Progoti Printers were two machine men and a manager. The printing press also was of extreme poor standard with only one old Heidelberg manual printing machine.

Brother Gaddafi Kindergarten School was housed in a separate building in Moghzabar area. This was a school of extreme poor standard with almost unprofessional and half-educated teachers.

Mainul Islam, an individual hailing from Barisal district in Bangladesh and the president of Bangladesh-Libya Friendship Society was owning the printing press, publications and the kindergarten school. He joined military dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad’s political party Jonodol.

Mainul Islam did not use the US$ 1-2 million he was receiving from Muammar Gaddafi for running these projects.

The Islamic Times also was a monthly magazine of extremely poor standard. With magazine format and 32 pages, every month 500-700 copies of this magazine were printed, while Mainul Islam might have shown a very large circulation of the number magazine to the Libyan authorities.

Later it was learned that the office premises of the Bangladesh Libya Friendship Society were mainly used for secret meeting of the Libyan diplomats with various individuals in Bangladesh. Meaning, this property might have been used as a secret meeting place of the members of Libyan intelligence. Self-proclaimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman also used to visit the office of Bangladesh Libya Friendship Society almost on a regular basis.

It is also learned that the Bangladesh Libya Friendship Society used to recruit educated and young local females as “domestic help” and send them to Libya, who ultimately joined the team of Gaddafi’s pleasure girls. Maj Gen Ziaur Rahman and his successor Lt Gen Hussain Muhammad Ershad were aware of this “special recruitment” of local females.
