It may be mentioned here that, as part of allowing freedom of expression, Bangladesh authorities does not block any website in the country.

This DMCA 2008 has a legitimate purpose. It seeks to balance the needs of two key parties. On the one hand there are copyright holders who have a legitimate expectation that their copyrighted material is not copied and used illegitimately by others; and, on the other hand, there are internet providers or social media platforms, who do not want to be held liable for copyrighted material which is published by others on websites or channels which they host. Under the DMCA 2008, companies are protected from potential liability for what their users post, but only if they agree to introduce a notice and takedown scheme.

It may be mentioned here that, DMCA is applicable for every company in the United States, and since Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etcetera are run from the US, affected individuals can press complaint with the social media or video-sharing platforms from anywhere in the world.

It may be further mentioned here that, individuals like Tasneem Khalil, Pinaki, Bhattacharya, Zulkarnain Saer Khan aka Tanvir Mohammad Sadat Khan aka Zulkarnain Saer Khan Sami, Tito Rahman and Nazmus Saquib (operators of extortionist Facebook page named ‘Nagorik TV’) are regularly violating copyrights which is a crime under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The United States and other countries in the West, including the European Union and Britain are continuously working in combating fake news and propaganda stuff. It is essential for the authorities concerned to immediately take-down social media accounts and YouTube channels run by these notorious individuals. At the same time, in January 2023, members of the US Congress need to bring the case of Netra News under scrutiny and ask the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) to stop funding this pro-Islamist website.
