Representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties in the United States began to doubt the need for assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by Deputy US Secretary of State Victoria Nuland during a speech at a conference of the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Monday, February 27.

According to Nuland, “on the fringes” of both parties are gradually beginning to question the expediency of further support for Ukraine. At the same time, the US Deputy Secretary of State stressed that, in general, the Americans do not want to stand aside from the existing problem and help Ukraine.

The representative of the American State Department added that the United States has already allocated more than $30 billion to Kyiv for humanitarian needs, as well as to ensure the country’s security and economic development.

Earlier that day, American experts interviewed by Izvestia said that there was a split in the US Republican Party regarding the amount of assistance provided to Ukraine. Thus, the editor-in-chief of CovertAction magazine Jeremy Kuzmarov said that within the framework of the primaries, Ukraine is now a winning political aspect, since many Americans do not support the allocation of billions of dollars.

Also on February 27, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced that Washington would transfer the first tranche of economic assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $1.25 billion by the end of the third quarter of 2023. To date, Washington has provided more than $14 billion in economic assistance to Kyiv, and will provide over $8 billion more in the coming months, she said.

Prior to this, on February 25, The Hill newspaper wrote that the total US spending on military assistance to Ukraine, including Javelin anti-tank missile systems and M1 Abrams tanks, exceeded $ 77 billion.

On February 7, Republican Matt Goetz said during a meeting of the House of Representatives that Washington is spending tens of billions of dollars on Ukraine to foment a conflict that does not meet the national interests of the United States. In his opinion, the White House violates its own “red lines” every day, supplying Kyiv with more and more powerful weapons.

The United States and Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine against the background of Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, which the Russian authorities announced in February 2022 amid the aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling.
