autumn planting

If the bulb is planted too late, it will not have time to take root and will freeze in winter. Planting too early will cause the bulbs to germinate and freeze at the first frost.

So that the bulbs have time to take root, they are planted 3-4 weeks before the first frost.

During this period, the soil should be warmed up to + 7 … + 10 degrees at a level of 15 cm. On average, tulips can be planted from the beginning of September to the end of October. When choosing a specific date, you can consider:

If you choose a landing date depending on climatic conditions, then focus on the following data:

middle lane: mid-September; northwest: second decade of September; south: early November; Northern Urals: from the first decade of September; South Ural: until the third decade of October; Siberia: from the first decade of September. Photo: freepik.com Lunar calendar

Favorable days for planting flowers in 2023:

How to plant bulbs

To plant the bulbs in open ground, you need to dig planting holes in advance with a depth equal to three bulbs. If a flower bed with heavy soil is used for planting, then the depth of the hole should be the size of two bulbs.

When planting, leave 8–10 cm between bulbs and 20 cm between rows.

Landing looks like this:

Fill the bottom of the hole with sand. Place the onion on it, sprout side up. Fill the free space with soil. Water the planting site moderately.

Planting kids

Tulips can be propagated with the help of children. They are planted according to the same principle as the bulbs, but it is enough to leave a distance of 3–4 cm between the children. It is worth knowing that the children will not bloom in the first year, so it makes no sense to plant them in the same area with the bulbs.

When to plant in spring

Spring planting is not common, since flowering of such specimens occurs only next year. In the spring, the bulbs are planted when they see that they are no longer in a very promising state and may not reach the fall.

Spring planting is carried out as early as possible, but in accordance with the climate. The best option is to plant in containers even in frost and then move to a flower bed. In this case, the soil temperature should not be lower than +9 degrees at a depth of 10 cm.

If you focus on the region, then the spring planting of tulips in pots may fall on the following days:

South: February-March; middle lane: first half of April; northern regions: May; In the Urals and Siberia: the end of March.
